CCI named a puppy Curley in honor of Pat Keel. This is Curley, born June
5 2008, and this photo is his 27th day! Isn't he adorable. He is still
living with his mom in California but will be sent to our area in a few
more weeks to be raised, probably in Florida. Curley is Pat Keel's
family name. He could not be named Keel because it sounds too much like
a CCI command-heel. Names cannot be similar to commands used or too
difficult to say with a speech impediment.

Virginia Seal Named State Woman’s Club Volunteer of the Year - 2007
Each year, the over 200 clubs in the Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs can each nominate one of their members to be named FFWC Volunteer of the Year. This award is presented to one woman’s club member who best exemplifies outstanding service through volunteerism and includes volunteering in other organizations as well as within her woman’s club. To be considered, the volunteer work must have been performed during the calendar year in which she is nominated.
Virginia Seal was nominated by GFWC Gulf Coast Woman’s Club for this honor and was one of 14 finalists invited to attend the FFWC Convention in Orlando where she was named as the state winner.
A retired educator, Virginia is a charter member of Gulf Coast Woman’s Club and a willing volunteer in many community organizations and her church. (June 26 2008) full article |

Shock turned into Surprise and Excitement at the 2008 Annual FFWC Convention held recently in Orlando. Members of GFWC Gulf Coast Woman’s Club, who attended the three day meeting, experienced all those emotions and more during the annual awards banquet. GFWC Gulf Coast Woman’s Club of Panama City was awarded the Lois B. Perkins Silver Tea Service as the Florida club whose members had the highest score in the area of service to their community in 2007. The award was a surprise since this is the third consecutive year the club has been awarded # 1 CLUB IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA out of 243 Florida Clubs. The Club is only 16 years old and has won this prestigious award in 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006 and now in 2007. Lois B. Perkins, for whom the award is named, was in attendance and presented the club with the Silver Tea Service engraved once again with the club’s name. This award is not possible without the participation of members who spend the volunteer hours working on projects for six club departments. Each one is uniquely different and plays a vital part in helping our community. Public Affairs won First place for Community Citizenship, Community Safety, and was First Over all in the state. Conservation won First in Resource Conservation, Beautification and First Overall. Education was First in Literacy and Second Overall. Home Life won First in Helping Hands, and Dollars and Sense, Second in Woman’s Health and First Overall. International Affairs won Second for Reaching Out Internationally and First Overall. The Arts Department was awarded Third place for Arts in the Community and Third Overall. The Club was also awarded First place for their work in the areas of Domestic Violence and Empowering Women. Other awards included First place in Leadership and Public Relations. The media book also won First Place and will go to the June General Federation Convention in Chicago to be judged internationally. The 143 members of GFWC Gulf Coast Woman’s Club take pride and dedication in their work to make this community a better place for those who live here. (June 14 2008) |

The GFWC Milton Woman's Club, Inc. held their
annual installation of officers during the regular monthly meeting on
May 8 at the Milton Clubhouse. Sharlene Cox, Florida Federation of Women's Clubs District 1 Director, installed the following officers for the 2008-2010 year: President, Paula Lou Mapoles; 1st Vice President, Debbie McInnis; 2nd Vice President, Anthea Amos; Recording Secretary, Janet Rothbart; Corresponding Secretary, Cecile Stephens; Treasurer, Pam Mitchell; and Parliamentarian, Kitty Grafton. President, Paula Lou Mapoles, wrote a very inspiring installation "Noah's Ark - Changing the World Two by Two" and included something special that applied to each person being installed. Each officer was assigned a color representative of her office and was given one of the animals from the beautiful wood ark used during the installation. The GFWC Milton Woman's Club, Inc. celebrates 95 years of service to their community this year. They were responsible for the first organized garbage collection in the City of Milton, presented the Fire Department with their first slickers and caps and the first convention of the District One Florida Federation of Women's Club was held in Milton on May 12 and 13, 1920 at the school building. And, this is just a few of the many things this group of dedicated ladies did to make their community a better place in which to live. Today, this very active, hardworking group of ladies may not be in charge of picking up garbage but they recently adopted a street in historic downtown Milton as part of the Adopt A Spot program and will maintain the beauty on the street where their Clubhouse is located throughout the year. They continue to enhance the quality of life in their community. ##### Photo ID for installation of officers: Seated: Kitty Grafton Standing (left to right): Paula Lou Mapoles; Debbie McInnis; Sharlene Cox; Pam Mitchell; Cecile Stephens; Janet Rothbart; and Anthea Amos.
